Are you feeling inspired to shift and change with the renewing energy spring? Now that the days are getting longer, we are naturally inclined to mimic Mother Earth and activate our energetic field. Spring is the time to connect with the change of seasons, a practice that dates back thousands of years.
In the science of Ayurveda, early spring is considered the Kapha season, the time when the elements of water and earth are at their strongest. As we shift to late spring, the firey Pita season arrives to burn away the heavy, dense energies of Kapha.
These inner shifts we feel with the changing seasons are instinctual; we feel the need to clean our physical spaces, which also cleanses our mental wellbeing. As we clear out our closets with the things that do not inspire us, we need to also tend to our mental and emotional bodies.
The practice of spiritual spring cleaning can prepare us for active summer and allow us to feel capable of accomplishing our dreams and our dharma. Allowing your mind to slow down and fully experience life rather than coasting through it will make you feel more present and more receptive to spring's energies.
When we become still, we can quiet our minds. AT first, being still can be discomforting, but after a while, it becomes a cleansing. The practice of Saucha allows us the time to clear out our minds so that we can thrive. Just like cleaning out the leaves in the garden to allow new growth to emerge, we need to cleanse our thoughts for new energies to emerge.
If you are interested in allowing yourself to feel more receptive to the energies of spring, try this simple practice.
Saucha Practice
Find a quiet space and sit comfortably. Close your eyes and focus on your breath. Soften your face. Notice the chatter in your mind when you become still, which is the natural reaction to slowing down your thoughts. Allow any chatter in your mind to float away as you bring your attention to your breath. Watch the pattern of your inhales and your exhales. Stay here, breathing steadily for 5 minutes or longer. If the chatter returns, notice it, then let it float away, returning to the silence of your mind and hearing only your breath.
"You have to make space in your life for what you want."
